- Knowledge of HM Coastguard rescue helicopters and assistance available from Coastguard Rescue Teams and lifeboats
    
- Understands how to prepare a boat and the casualty for the arrival of a rescue helicopter
    
- Understands actions required when the helicopter is on scene, and how to manage a hi-line
    
- Can identify actions that could be dangerous, such as using a parachute rocket, attaching the hi- line to the boat, not allowing the hi-line to earth 
    
    
    - Follow instructions from helicopter (VHF)
    
- Brief crew
    
- Clear loose gear from the deck
    
- Follow advice from helicopter as to where their crew will land
    
- Maintain a steady course and speed (as instructed by helicopter)
    
- If on a sailing vessel, lower sails
    
 
    
    
        
    - A weighted line (a.k.a hi-line) may be lowered first
    
- Let the line touch the water first 
    
- Grab the loose line an gather in the slack (in to a bucket if available) 
    
- DO NOT attach the line to any part of the vessel
    
 
 
 
 
    
    
        
    - A helicopter crew member will be lowered
    
- Pull them towards to the vessel (only if they ask)
    
- Follow the instructions of the crew member once they are onboard
